Castle Rock is a fast-growing Douglas County town with a housing stock that spans from historic homes near the downtown core to large master-planned communities like The Meadows, Terrain, and Crystal Valley Ranch on the town's edges. The town sits along I-25 between Denver and Colorado Springs, and its position on the Palmer Divide means it sees more wind, more temperature variability, and more precipitation than either city to its north or south. Concrete driveways and garage floors in Castle Rock's newer subdivisions are often only five to fifteen years old, but the Palmer Divide's wind-driven freeze-thaw cycles and occasional heavy hail events put early stress on unprotected surfaces. Older homes near the historic downtown and in Craig and Gould or Castle Rock Heights have slabs that are decades old and show the wear patterns that come with that age.
